Recognising and rewarding your volunteers

I know you say thank you to your volunteers on a regular basis but here’s some great opportunities to show how much your organisation values their contribution.

The Volunteer Centre Croydon has been working with Value You to set up a reward card for people who have given over 100 of volunteer time in Croydon.

Local shops have provided gift vouchers and discounts, all you need to do is ask your volunteers to sign up and then confirm the hours they have given – all for FREE.

I know that some of you are saying “but Hilary, doesn’t this change the relationship between ourselves and the volunteer”. And in reply I ask; will this be the main motivation for someone to volunteer with you, will they only do 100 hours in order to get their hands on this card? We discussed this at length in the Volunteer Centre and decided that we’re happy that this is a reasonable reward and as long as other volunteer management systems are properly in place it will not adversely affect your relationship.

Once confirmed we will print certificates for your volunteers that can be collected from the centre and the discount card will be sent directly to the volunteer. So take a look at the website and start registering your volunteers – any questions please get in touch.

Why not make Value You a significant part of your Volunteer’s Week celebration June 1st – 12th. This (extended) week is a national celebration of all that volunteers do. NCVO’s has produced some resources  Download your digital resource pack (pdf) – it has everything you need to help plan your Volunteers’ Week celebrations, including bunting, the logo and press release templates.

Post your events on Twitter using #volunteersweek.

The Volunteer Centre Croydon will be taking our volunteers to the Houses of Parliament for a tour and discussion with Gavin Barwell MP. What have you got organised? volunteersweeklogo-small7a64
