It’s Trustee’s Week!

It’s an opportunity to say thank you to your Trustees and recognise all they give to your organisation. It’s also a chance to reflect and plan for future Trustee recruitment.

There are just over 1 million Trustees in the UK supporting the work of 196 000 registered charities. So there are people out there willing to get involved but it can seem hard to find them.

One reason it can be hard to recruit Trustees is that people are worried about what they are letting themselves in for. Can you share real stories about how your Trustees have taken on the role, how much time they have to give and the type of decisions they are having to make? There are examples of Trustee stories on the Trustee’s Week website that could be used to develop your own.

Another reason is that people think they do not have the skills to offer. What skills do you need on your Trustee board? Identifying gaps can help you target recruitment and be clear about what skills and experience that would really benefit the charity.

There’s a wide range of resources to support Trustees and to help find Trustees, they have been collected together on the Trustees Week website.

And don’t forget to say thank you to your current Trustee team. Could you invite them for a coffee morning or afternoon tea, send them a thank you card from the staff and volunteer team or have a “Thank You Trustees” message on your website.
